Picture

Wayne County was named after Revolutionary War hero, General Anthony Wayne.

Original settlers came from North and South Carolina.

Wayne County, derived from the Mississippi Territory (1798-1817), was established by an act of Congress on December 21, 1809. In all, 13 counties have been ``carved" out of the original Wayne County.

With 827 square miles, Wayne County is the third largest in the state.
